driving led
When driving LEDs in strings from a DC source it is important to know that the length of the string is limited by the input voltage. For example, a source of 12 volts will be able to drive up to 3 LEDs, a 24 volt source will drive around 6 LEDs and a 36 volt source will drive up to 10 LEDs. This is because the topology of most DC constant current LED drivers is buck. To increase the number of LEDs driven by one driver, it is possible to connect strings in parallel and share the current and the addition of a current mirror, as shown in this slide. It is necessary to match forward voltages in LEDs while implementing parallel combinations such as this without a current mirror.
