PBL500 Series Power Supplies for Medical (BF) Applications
XP Power's PBL500 series 250 W and 500 W Class II power supplies offer either convection or forced cooling options
XP Power's PBL500 series of power supplies are designed for Class II applications required to operate with no earth connection. The U-channel can provide 250 W when convection cooled or the full 450 W to 500 W when forced air cooled. It has medical approvals with 2 x MOPP (input-to-output), 2 x MOPP (input-to-case), and 1 x MOPP (output-to-case), making it suitable for BF healthcare applications.
The PBL500 is available as a U-channel (B version) for either convection cooling (250 W) or forced-air cooling using 30 CFM of moving air (450 W to 500 W). The C version is supplied with a top cover and built-in temperature-controlled fan cooling to minimize audible noise (450 W to 500 W).
There is a choice of eight DC outputs (12 V, 15 V, 18 V, 24 V, 28 V, 36 V, 48 V, and 57 V) with no minimum load requirement. Remote sensing can be used to compensate for a voltage drop of up to 0.5 V. Each model also has an auxiliary 5 VDC, 2 A standby output with a 12 VDC, 0.3 A fan output available on the U-channel version.
Remote on/off provides control of the main output and reduces the input power to 210 mW when inhibited. An AC OK signal provides remote monitoring capability. All models feature thermal shutdown, overvoltage, and overcurrent protection. Patient leakage current is typically 50 µA. The input-to-output isolation is 4 kVAC, input-to-case 4.0 kVAC, and output-to-case 1.5 kVAC. All models have an input range of 80 VAC to 264 VAC with derating below 90 VAC..
EMC standards include EN55011/32 Class B for conducted and radiated emissions. Safety approvals include CB IEC60601-1, UL ES60601-1, CSA22.2 No.60601-1, and TUV EN60601.
The operating temperature range is -10°C to +70°C with full power available from -10°C to +50°C. The MTBF is greater than 100,000 hours (MIL-HDBK-217F, +25°C GB) with an operating altitude of 5000 m. The U-channel version (B version) measures 7.1” x 4.21” x 1.56” (180.34 mm x 107.0 mm x 39.42 mm) and weighs 1.0 kg. The enclosed version (C version) measures 7.1” x 4.21” x 1.85” (180.34 mm x 107.0 mm x 47.0 mm) and weighs 1.14 kg.
