UARTs (Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter) sind Schaltkreise, die parallele Bits von einem Mikrocontroller oder einer CPU in serielle Bits für die Übertragung oder empfangene serielle Bits in parallele Bits zur Verwendung durch einen anderen Mikrocontroller bzw. eine andere CPU umwandeln. UARTs können die Protokolle RS232, RS422 oder RS485 für die Datenübertragung verwenden und nach Anzahl der Kanäle, Datenrate und zusätzlichen Funktionen wie internen Oszillatoren, Timern, Zählern, GPIO und Druckeranschlüssen ausgewählt werden.
